Signs of disease attacking your tree may be difficult to spot. Trees are infected with disease early in the spring however you wont see warning signs untill later int he summer. Most commonly there will be a type of leaf spotting, which is brown and/or yellow. Then later in the summer you may notice your tree's leaves to be falling prematurely.
Tree Species: Crab Apple Disease: Apple Scab, cedar apple rust
This is a picture of a crab apple tree with apple scab. This is a fungus that is commonly found around the W.N.Y. area. It is a very unsightly disease which causes spotting on the tree's leaves in the summer and then almost always resulting in shedding of the tree's leaves in July or August. This dangerous disease over time will weaken your tree and may aklso result in death.
Tree Species: Sycamore, Disease; Antracnose
The picture on the left is of a sycamore leaf that is infected with antraenose, a disease notorious for attacking the sycamore tree. Like the crabapple tree, this disease is clearly visible in late June and July. You are likely to notice an abundant amount of dropped leaves in your yard that look like this.
